It was the 34th year of this prestigious event, which is organized in the month of February each year to commemorate the National and Liberation Days. Appropriately the trophy is called the Liberation Cup. A distinctive feature of this open tournament is that it attracts golfers from all sections of the society, and includes both Sahara Club members as well as other golf enthusiasts. There was an overwhelming request for participation, and eventually 100 players were shortlisted. This year a new provision was introduced so as to ensure a level playing field – the players were divided into two divisions based on their handicap : Division A (Handicap 0 to 14) and Division B (Handicap 15 to 28). As usual, the game was played in the ‘Stableford’ format, which allows for relatively speedy play. The pleasant mildly-cold weather last Friday contributed to a good game in the undulating contours of the verdant 18-hole Championship Golf course.
